Hello, Everyone!
Welcome to my updated website and the
newest edition of my newsletter. I hope
this finds you all happy and healthy and full of curiosity and wonderment.
I'm happy to announce that I’ve
completed revisions on my contemporary book.
It’s on its way to my agent in New York. I know that many of you prefer historical
settings (or you wouldn’t be reading my books), but I hope that, once it’s
published, you will give the contemporary story a try. The time and setting are contemporary, but
the characterization and voice are mine. I don’t know when my contemporary book will be
published, but I'll keep you posted on its status...
I’ve also started
writing the first chapter of the sixth Free Fellows League book (Alex’s
story). The working title is A BACHELOR
STILL and it’s far from complete, but many of you have asked me to write it and
I finally got the opening scene and most of the plot . I’ve written the first chapter and the
opening chapter of the first of a planned three book Regency series. If all goes well, I will have the opportunity
to write and publish those books as well.
Since I haven’t had a new book out in a while, I’m
amazed to discover that new readers are discovering my books every day. For that, I thank you, my current readers, new
and used booksellers, bloggers, and chat room members who continue to recommend
my backlist.
The Free Fellows find new followers
every day and those readers are welcome to join the League and receive a FFL
membership card.
Click on the membership card on the
Free Fellows League Charter page to join.

Oprah has her O List in her O, The Oprah
Magazine, so I'm going to introduce REBECCA'S RAVING ABOUT as part
of my newsletter in order to share my latest discoveries with you.
These are an eclectic assortment of
items that I've been raving about to my friends and
family.
I don't receive any endorsement money
from any of the items I recommend, nor can I guarantee you will like them as
much as I do. I'm simply sharing my new discoveries and favorite things.
Try them or not. The decision is up to you.
REBECCA'S RAVING ABOUT appears
to be a hit with those of you who read my newsletter. I've had several
nice e-mails about it and a few recommendations, so here goes...
MARCH-APRIL 2008 EDITION
REBECCA’S RAVING ABOUT:
MINUTE MAID POMEGRANATE LEMONADE
I discovered this surprisingly refreshing lemonade, complete with
antioxidants, a couple of weeks ago and I’m hooked. You’ll find it in the refrigerated juice
section of the grocery and discount stores. Give it a try.
CHRISTIAN
LOUBOUTIN LUXURY RED SOLE SHOES
Love the distinctive red-lacquered soles. I don’t own any. They’re on my wish list. I simply admire them from afar on the feet of
celebrities. Maybe someday… After all,
red is my signature color…
NO
RESERVATIONS
Catherine Zeta Jones, Aaron Eckhart, and Abigail Breslin. Although it didn’t do very well at the box
office, I loved this romantic comedy about a hyper-sensitive workaholic chef
(Catherine Zeta Jones) who knows nothing about raising her orphaned niece
(Abigail Breslin) and the sous chef (Aaron Eckhart) who does so much that I
bought the DVD. Excellent cast including Patricia
Clarkson. Oh, and the special features
section of the DVD includes an old fashioned pancake recipe almost identical to
the one I used many years ago when I spent the summer working as a babysitter
for a neighbor’s son and daughter.
LAST HOLIDAY
Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Timothy Hutton, Alicia Witt, Gerard
Depardieu. I also bought this DVD after
watching the movie on pay-per-view several times. I loved the premise of this film where a
cookware salesclerk in a New Orleans department store dreams of becoming a chef
and opening a restaurant. When she’s
diagnosed with a terminal disease, she decides it’s time she lived before she
dies. This is a lovely comedy about the
true meaning of life and of making your dreams come true before it’s too
late. Excellent casting and outstanding
performances. And there are recipes on
the special features portion of this DVD, too.
Bon appetite’.
THE
BUCKET LIST
Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Sean Hayes. Another learning to live before you kick the
bucket movie. I didn’t pick these movies
because they have similar themes. It
just happened that way. These are the
movies I’ve seen recently and recommended -- although the chemo scenes in this
movie are difficult to watch if you’ve ever had chemo. The casting of this movie is perfect. Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are
terrific and Sean Hayes is equally good in a supporting role. It’s playing in theaters now.
RADIANT HANDS, NAILS, AND CUTICLE CRÈME by SALLY HANSEN
I’ve used this hand crème all winter and I'm still raving about
it. It softens and soothes dry skin
without being greasy. It’s citrusy scent
is pleasant without being overwhelming.
JAVA LOG
The green alternative to petroleum wax based fire logs. Java Logs are made from recycled coffee
grounds and burn hotter and brighter than regular fire logs. Unfortunately, they don’t smell like
coffee. But they look wonderful burning
in the fireplace and that’s all that really matters.

As you can see, I
generally read several different books at a time. Like everyone else, I read different
books for different reasons, so there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what
I'm reading at any given time. But it all makes sense to me. I read
some authors because I know I'm always guaranteed a great read. I read
other books (and authors) to keep abreast of the current market, and I read a
wide range of non-fiction titles for research or to increase my store of
knowledge. My favorite forms of non-fiction are biographies and
autobiographies. And while I would love to read more popular fiction and
literary fiction, I don't generally take the time for it anymore. But I'm
working to change that.
FOR PLEASURE
SHADOW DANCE by Julie
Garwood
I love Julie Garwood's
books. And I loved SHADOW DANCE. I
did my best to savor it as I read it in one day. It was wonderful! It was just what I needed to take me out of
my world and into hers.
CRAZY FOR YOU by Jennifer
Crusie
I was hungry for a good
contemporary, so I re-read CRAZY FOR YOU.
I’m happy to report that I loved it as much this time as I have the
other times I’ve read it. It’s one of my
favorites.
FOR INSPIRATION AND
PERSONAL GROWTH
The older I get, the more
interested I am in becoming a better citizen of the world around me.
Discovering who I am and where I fit into the scheme of things is part of
the natural progression of my education. I'm reading these books in my
quest.
A NEW EARTH: AWAKENING TO
YOUR LIFE’S PURPOSE
by Eckhart Tolle
I’m awakening to this
marvelous work by a truly remarkable human being and like Oprah and thousands
of other folks, I’m taking Oprah’s and Eckhart’s ten week class. It’s life changing.
I highly recommend it!
THE YEAR OF MAGICAL
THINKING
by Joan Didion
Her journey through grief
after the sudden death of her husband, writer John Gregory Dunne. Her writing
is so beautiful, so heart-wrenching, and courageous.
JUST PURCHASED…
THE MURDER GAME
by Beverly Barton
I really enjoyed the other
books in this series and I’m looking forward to this one.
GUILTY by Karen Robards
I’ve pre-ordered it
and can’t wait to read it. She’s an automatic buy for me and I’ve never been
disappointed. Like Sandra Brown, I’ve
read Karen Robards from the beginning and she just gets better and better.
BIOGRAPHIES
JOHN WAYNE: THE MAN
BEHIND THE MYTH by Michael Munn.

THE BEST OF KENNY RANKIN
I also listen to cd's of
different mixes of songs and artists I like. Directors and composers
create soundtracks for film and television. I create them for the books I
write. Every book has a soundtrack that I listened to over and over while
I was writing.
